This time we are going to learn more about Andreas Drakos, one of the newest members of the AK team! FYI, Andreas is holding a BSc and PhD from the Department of Telecommunications Science and Technology of the University of Peloponnese, Greece.
1. When did you join the Agro-Know team? Any interesting story behind your recruitment?
Well, I am one of the new “guys” having joined only last April, but I already feel not only like being here for a long time.
I could definitely remember two things about my recruitment:
-first interview in AK offices, me being fashionable on time and instead of the interview (which was delayed), participating in a small meeting in the kitchen for the agINFRA user content meeting
-my first day in the offices being April Fools’ Day and thinking if at the end of the day they would say it was just a joke
2. What is your role in the team?
I am one of those people going from desk to desk asking people to do one more thing before leaving today and sending emails to remind everyone about deadlines, things to do, participate in meetings, in other words I am one of the project managers, responsible for organizing the work for the different projects we are engaged in.
3. What do you find interesting in your work with AK?
First is the people, there is a great group of people here in AK, everyone bringing something new. It is very nice spending most of your day with people you not can communicate but also have fun. And this can also be seen in the way the company works and what we are trying to do here. Providing tools and services to help users around green issues, engaging them to create their own ideas and applications is part of the things I like in AK.
4. What are your hobbies / How do you spend your free time?
I love anything that has to do with the sea and especially diving! The beauty that lies under there is simply wonderful…
Apart from that, I like going for walks and discovering new things and this is one of the great things in working in AK since I have the opportunity to travel and explore different cities in different countries.
Of course, being a sci-fi person, I am always in search for new sci-fi books, watching movies and series.
5. Where can we find you online?
All the usual places, facebook, linkedin but also you can find me in GoogleScholar, ResearchGate and of course in the AK wiki
6. Favorite kind of music?
Well I generally like listening to alternative & indie rock but I also really enjoy jazz and even classical music (especially when working).
7. Which was the last book you read / movie you watched?
I normally would answer this question with a book from Terry Pratchett (my favorite author) but as it happens, these days I am reading a book more “related” to my work, The Mafia Manager: A Guide to the Corporate Machiavelli
As for a movie, I just watched the “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” which was even worst that the first one with a completely destroyed story (come on now, Legolas?)
8. Any specific achievement for which you are proud?
I refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incriminate myself
9. What was the last gadget you bought and why you bought it?
After a lot of failures and with a lot of mobiles going dead on me (suicide by drowning, jumping from the 2nd floor or a simply painful and long lasting losing each day one more thing)I finally was able to buy a new decent phone which has helped me a lot to keep up with e-mails and internet especially during the last trips.
10. Anything else to share with us? Any interesting trips during the last months?
(for those not knowing yet) are you joking, I went to Australia!!!!!
