It has been more than one month since we last interviewed someone from the Agro-Know team; this time, we have the pleasure to interview Lito Pateraki, one of the first interns that made it to Agro-Know. Lito has been with us for about three months now and has been working on food safety material, under Effie‘s supervision. Let’s see what Lito has responded to our questions!
1. You are one of the first interns to join the Agro-Know team. Would you like to share some info on how you found us and what drew your attention in the AK job opening ?
Indeed I am one of the first interns to join Agro-Know team! Well that’s truly a funny story! I had just finished my Master in Food Science, when a friend of mine told me about a job opening at Agro-Know. She heard about the position from a common friend we have (and we haven’t noticed before)! The name of the common friend is Andreas Drakos. It had been years since the last time I have spoken with Andreas so it was a big surprise when my friend told me that Andreas is working at Agro-Know and there was a job opening. When I was informed about the position I send my CV and I came in for an interview. So here I am!
2. What is your educational background and which is your current role in the AK team?
I graduated in 2010 from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece (AUA). I always wanted to have the opportunity to combine the fields of Agricultural Biotechnology and Food Science and Technology, so I decided to continue my studies in the Department of Food Science and Human nutrition of AUA, specializing in the field of Quality Management Systems Assurance and Food Hygiene. In the AK team I am a proud member of the Data team and currently my role is to work on information management of different types of data in the field of Food Science & Technology.
3. What do you find interesting in your work with Agro-Know so far? Do you see any challenges in your daily routine at the office?
So far is an amazing and challenging experience! I like the fact that we deal with many different tasks and constantly try to find ideal solutions to achieve our goals. It’s very interesting that we work as groups and the most challenging part for me is that we contact with many important people of food community and agricultural area from all around the world!
4. You were in the winning team of Ecotrophelia 2014 in Greece; can you share some information about the competition and your team’s idea?
Indeed I am a really proud and happy member of the team that represented the Laboratory of Food Quality Control and Hygiene of AUA and won the first prize at the 4th National Competition, Ecotrophelia 2014!! We had the idea to develop a new sweet snack/ dessert, low fat and no added sugars. “Carobites” (our product) is a Ready-To-Eat, sweet, on the go snack of high nutritional value based on carob combined with the innovative technology of edible coatings. Teams’ next challenge is the European Ecotrophelia Competition, which will take place in Paris, France, in October 2014, during the International Exhibition of Food and Beverages (SIAL). Fingers crossed!!!
5. What are your hobbies / How do you spend your free time?
Well on my free time I love to catch up with my friends. I also like travelling, shopping, gardening, knitting (no comments) and making handmade jewellery!
6. Where can we find you online?
You can find me through e-mail, Skype and Facebook
7. Favorite kind of music?
I can listen to almost any kind of music when I am with good friends, but at home I mostly prefer to listen to Pepper radio. My new favorite songs are Nantes by Beirut (see the video below) and Another Love by Tom Odell
8. Which was the last book you read / movie you watched?
I read the book with title “What will I become if I don’t grow up” from Lena Divani. Hm…I really can’t remember the title of the last movie I saw! I never remember the title! I have to work on that! hahaha
9. What was the last gadget you bought and why you bought it?
I am not a gadget person to be honest.. But I enjoy using them. The last one I bought was my smart phone (a Nokia Lumia 720 Windows Phone) -Vasilis you are not alone anymore!!!-
(note from Vassilis: Indeed I was surprised to see that there are now three of us with Nokia Lumias in the Agro-Know team!)
10. Anything else to share with us?
I think that’s all for now! Thank you Vassilis for the great interview!
I would like to thank Lito for taking the time to provide us with her responses to this interview; I know how hard the new interns are working during the last months!
