Ensure the compliance of your H2020 proposal & project with the H2020 Open Access Policy

One of the important features of the various Horizon 2020 calls is that Open Access to research publications produced in the lifetime of the project is now mandatory – no matter if the Green or Gold Open Access model will be followed. All proposals that are submitted in any of the Horizon 2020 calls need to have a clearly defined plan for the dissemination of their research publications while the projects already funded by H2020 need to actually implement their Open Access plan for their publications.

On top of that, Horizon 2020 has a limited pilot action on open access to research data. Participating projects will be required to develop a Data Management Plan (DMP) (see the Guidelines on Data Management), in which they will specify what data will be open. However, there are specific H2020 calls that also require the inclusion of a Data Managament Plan (PDF) for the research outcomes (data) produced by the project, that will also allow open access to not only the publications but also to the research data.

We are currently working on a service that will provide support to people such as H2020 Research Project Managers & Knowledge Managers (among others) that need to describe an open access plan in their proposal and implement it in their ongoing project. We aim at those who might need help in understanding the H2020 Open Access Policy and how it could be adapted, fine-tuned & implemented in the case of their proposal and project. We plan to offer a variety of solutions, in order to meet the needs of different types of stakeholders in different contexts, starting from a ready-to-use description of the plan (for the proposal) to personalized consultation support to ongoing H2020 projects.
