New Horizon 2020 calls for agri-food research are on

If you are looking for funding for your agri-food research idea you should definitely look at the upcoming Horizon 2020 calls!

Horizon 2020 has already secured a budget of around €3.7 billion for the Societal Challenge 2 (SC2) on “Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine, maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy” for 2014-2020, out of which the Horizon 2020 SC2 Work Programme for 2016-2017 offers a budget of around €877 million.

The main opportunities for agriculture and forestry can be found in three main calls, each one of which includes a number of themes and each theme includes a number of topics:

Sustainable Food Security (SFS): It includes the following themes

  • More resilient and resource efficient value chains (25 topics)
  • Environment-smart and climate smart primary production (7 topics)
  • A competitive food industry (3 topics)
  • Healthy and safe foods and diets for all (5 topics)
  • Support to the implementation of the EU-Africa partnership on food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture (3 topics)
  • Implementation of the EU-China FAB flagship initiative (5 topics)

Blue Growth (BG): It includes the following themes

  • Boosting innovation for emerging Blue Growth activities (5 topics)
  • Linking healthy oceans and seas with healthy people (3 topics)
  • The Arctic dimension (3 topics)
  • Valorizing the Mediterranean sea basin (2 topics)

Rural Renaissance (RUR): It includes the following themes

  • New approaches towards policies and governance (5 topics)
  • New value chains and business models (4 topics)
  • Innovation and skill development (7 topics)

Bio-based innovation (BB): It includes the following themes

  • Securing sustainable biomass supply for bio-based goods and services (4 topics)
  • Building the “bio-based markets of the future”- mobilising stakeholders engagement (2 topics)

You can find more information about these calls, themes and topics in the corresponding Horizon 2020 call document. You should keep in mind that collaborations with third countries, such as China, U.S. and Latin American countries is encouraged in specific calls.

The upcoming deadlines for these calls are 17/02/2016 and 13/09/2016
