Coming back to those team members who usually stay outside the spotlight but still go through a learning process through their participation in the Agroknow team; they learn from us and we learn from them! Nikos Toumaras is one of the last persons who decided to do their internship in Agroknow and get some first-hand experience of the competitive market in which Agroknow is activated. Nikos is working closely with the Admin Dept. of Agroknow and gains experience by helping solve real-world issues. Let’s see what Nikos has responded to our questions.
You are one of the latest interns to join the Agroknow team. Would you like to share some info on how you found us and what drew your attention in the Agroknow job opening?
I was looking for an internship as a part of my undergraduate studies and I want to find a company which will have a friendly environment for the new team members. Finally, I found Agroknow after an extensive research and, immediately, I tried to understand the values and the vision of this company. Although it was a little complicated to figure out what Agroknow really is, after a while I was impressed of your work. Especially, the combination of agricultural sciences and open data – information science is something not very common in the Greek enterprises and attracts me a lot.
What is your educational background and which is your current role in the Agroknow team?
Currently, I am an undergraduate student of Economics at Athens University of Economics and Business with a specialization on European & International Economics. In Agroknow I am Project Management Office (PMO) Intern collaborating with the Administration Department mainly in financial issues, expenses and costs of Agroknow’s projects.
What do you find interesting in your work with Agroknow so far? Do you see any challenges in your daily routine at the office?
My everyday life, 8 hours per day, in the Agroknow is without any surprises. Dimitra and Veronika are constantly ready to help me with any task and until now I don’t see any challenges at the office. One of the most interesting things is that the team is a group of people, moving virtually everywhere around Europe (but not only there). The network is increasing more and more and we take part in a variety of different activities.
You are involved in the Admin team of Agroknow; do you feel that your background helps you with your current tasks?
My academic background on economics and my focus on European affairs are appropriate with the aims and objectives of the company. Agroknow has a vision towards European projects and initiatives, so I believe that my interests fit very well with the company’s sectors.

What are your hobbies / How do you spend your free time?
I like watching a variety of different sports, mainly football but only that, watching movies and reading almost everything, even scientific bibliography! Also, in my free time I play board games and video games (not a big fan, but sometimes – some of them are good) and everything else with nice company.
Where can we find you online?
Unfortunately, I don’t have any social media accounts, not even on Facebook. I don’t find it necessary having one, at least till today!
Favorite kind of music?
Mainly electronic music (all sub-genres), rock (soft or even hard rock), generally I like listening ambient – atmospheric sounds. That’s my favourite genres of music since a long time. One of my favourite bands is Massive Attack and one of the songs that I listen to very often lately is Guilt by Nero.
Which was the last book you read / movie you watched?
The last movie that I watched was Nightcrawler (2014) with Jake Gyllenhaal, a movie about crime journalism.
One of the latest books that I read and I should read it was ‘’Why Nations Fail’’ (it’s on economics, but it’s generally popular)!
What was the last gadget you bought and why you bought it?
I am not a tech freak and I only use the basic gadgets in my life. Now I intend to buy a new, better laptop replacing my old one. I have the option to buy it using my gift cards from Agroknow, or something else, I am not sure yet!
Anything else to share with us?
At the same time with my internship, I have started learning French and soon I will finish my studies at the university. Within a short time, other plans begin!
We would like to thank Nikos for taking the time to respond to our questions and wish him all the best for his internship with Agroknow – and even beyond that!
