First Issue of the Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP) Newsletter

Join the GFSP Development Dialogue: Improving Global Food Safety

GFSP_logoLast Monday, March 23rd, the Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP) launched a two-week online discussion on global food safety open to the widest possible group of experts and stakeholders. This discussion, known as a thematic Development Dialogue, is hosted by the World Bank Striking Poverty digital platform and is moderated by Juergen Voegele, Senior Director of the Agriculture Global Practice at the World Bank.

While writing this, I am on the plane for home and trying to adjust from the summer weather of Cape Town to the chilly weather of Athens. But most of all, I am trying to digest a wealth of ideas, images and impressions that I bring back with me from the annual conference of the Global Food Safety Partnership. About one month ago we received a kind invitation from our Aephoria.net, regarding our participation in a training session on Data and Information Management, a domain that Agro-Know knows pretty well and has significant experience in. We were glad to accept the invitation and in the meantime we started planning our participation and contribution to the specific session. Lito Pateraki, our Food Safety Specialist, was the one representing Agro-Know and with contributions from the rest of the Agro-Know team, she started organizing things.

Global Food Safety Partnership 3rd Annual Conference

GFSP_LogoThe 3rd Annual Conference of the Global Food Safety Partnership is taking place between 8 – 12 December 2014 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Cape Town, South Africa. It will consist of various information sharing sessions and bilateral meetings that will allow the GFSP partners to exchange ideas and updates on the food safety sector. More focused discussions will take place in the context of Working Group meetings and the Round Table meetings that are expected to summarize the discussions that will take place over the previous days.

Agro-Know CEO Nikos Manouselis is participating in the Conference on behalf of Agro-Know and he is expected to contribute not only to the Database Subgroup and the Knowledge & Learning Systems Group of GFSP (to which Agro-Know is an active contributor) but also to propose the Agro-Know data-powered solutions that will benefit GFSP.… Click to read the full post

The GFSP Open Source Platform for Food Safety Capacity Building: Hands-on session

GFSP_logoLast week, we worked together with our GFSP colleagues from the World Bank and CCCET Global to prepare a presentation of the technology platform that we would like to see being set up to support such a large scale network of institutions. We took advantage of a GFSP event titled “Food Safety in Dairy Development Stakeholder Consultation Workshop – East Africa that took place on November 3rd and 4th, at the Nairobi campus of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI, one of the CGIAR consortium centres).
